A 'dérive' is an unplanned journey through a landscape - in which participants drop their everyday relations and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there. Guy Debord defines dérive as a 'technique of rapid passage through varied ambiences'. What makes derivation different from a stroll is its playful/constructive aspect and an awareness of psychogeographical effects.

The theme of dérive was given as a prompt to residents of PICTURE BERLIN for their first group show, exhibited at tête project space on July 17, 2018.
