A 'dérive' is an unplanned journey through a landscape, usually urban, in which participants drop their everyday relations and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there. Guy Debord defines dérive as a 'technique of rapid passage through varied ambiences'. What makes derivation different from a stroll is its playful/constructive aspect and an awareness of psychogeographical effects.

The theme of dérive was given as a prompt to residents of PICTURE BERLIN for their first group show, which was exhibited at tête project space on July 17, 2018.
